İdil Gaziulusoy​
İ​dil Gaziulusoy is Professor of Sustainable Design and leader of NODUS Sustainable Design Reseach Group at the Department of Design, Aalto University. Professor İdil Gaziulusoy has a background in industrial design (M.Sc.) and sustainability science (Ph.D.) and has research and teaching experience in Turkey, New Zealand, Australia and Finland. Her expertise lies at the intersection of design research, sustainability science and socio-technical-ecological transitions.

What habits you have in your everyday life that are especially “Smart”?

"I have breakfast in the mornings."
"I cycle to work or use public transport."
"I spend my money on experiences (particularly cultural) than 'things'."

 

What aspects are missing from the discussion concerning smart city or smart region?

"Human-centred smartness"
"Empowering citizens and making them 'smart'."

 

How does your research support developing smarter solutions?

"My research area is design for sustainability transitions; that involves generating visions of desirable, sustainable and not-business-as-usual futures and developing policy and innovation strategies to achieve them using participatory approaches."

How familiar are you with Lahti? Is there something special you wish to do in Lahti?

"I haven’t been to Lahti before. I have no specific wishes."
