Board of Directors elected for LAB University of Applied Sciences

LAB University of Applied Sciences has appointed its first Board of Directors. Nine permanent members have been elected to the Board. The Chairman is Juha-Matti Saksa, D.Sc. (Econ.), Rector of LUT University.

LAB University of Applied Sciences is a higher education institute focusing on innovation, business and industry. It operates in Lahti and Lappeenranta and also provides education online. LAB offers education in five fields: Health Care and Social Services, Technology, Business Administration, Tourism and Hospitality, and Design and Fine Arts.

LAB University of Applied Sciences is owned by LUT University. LAB will start operations on 1 January 2020 when Lahti University of Applied Sciences and Saimaa University of Applied Sciences merge.

Corporate representatives on the Board of Directors include Pär-Gustaf Relander, M.Sc. (Tech.), Chairman of Polttimo Group, and Juha Tuominen, M.D., CEO of the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS).

Before joining the family business, Relander worked at Raute for several years. Tuominen has built a long career in the medical field, for example as Vice President, Medical at Terveystalo, Chief Medical Officer at HUS and Director of the medicinal profit centre at HUCH.

The former owner municipalities of Saimaa University of Applied Sciences are represented on the Board of Directors by Kaisa Heino, LL.M. with court training, Deputy Mayor of the City of Imatra. Heino has previously served as Director of Administrative Affairs and City Counsel at the City of Imatra and as legal counsel at the South Karelia Social and Health Care District (Eksote).

The former owners of Lahti University of Applied Sciences are represented on the Board of Directors of LAB University of Applied Sciences by Pekka Timonen, M.A., Mayor of the City of Lahti. Timonen has previously worked as General Secretary of Centenary of Finland’s Independence Finland 100 project of the Prime Minister’s Office, Executive Director of the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 and Cultural Director at the City of Helsinki.

The staff of LAB University of Applied Sciences has elected from among its number Jarmo Kemppinen, M.Sc. (Econ.), Lecturer, and Camilla Pulkkinen, student of Wood Technology, from Student Union KOE. Other members of the Board of Directors include Liisa-Maija Sainio, D.Sc. (Econ.), Provost of LUT University, and  Riikka Sund, LL.M with court training, General Counsel at LUT University.
