Experiencing the Finnish Approach to Design

My name is Megan Gallacher and I am from Edinburgh University, studying Fashion and Clothing Design as an exchange student at LAMK.

"LAMK is a university that seems to really care about their students and I have found that talking to the teachers is more a discussion of ideas than instructions. I have found this to be better suited to my ideas and process as it has allowed my room to explore more options and think about what I want to achieve. "

Finland's First Vehicle Designers Graduated

Institute of Design has long had a connection with the automotive design world, with previous graduates of Industrial Design choosing to specialise in that field. Graduates in the past have taken further studies at for example RCA London, and many work in the automotive design industry. Lahti alumni can be found in car studios such as Skoda, Toyota, Ford, Tesla and more around the world.

Open UAS Studies at the Institute of Design

In addition to the regular degree programmes, LAMK also offers so-called Open Studies coordinated by LAMK Open UAS. The Open Studies are part of the Finnish adult education system. Open UAS courses are individual, fee-charging courses - they are not full degree programmes, even though they are based on the undergraduate curricula of LAMK.
