“Hard work is the key to success”

Umang Mohindroo is studying Master Degree in International Business Management at Lahti University of Applied Sciences (LUAS).

Tell us something about your past. How long time have you been in Finland?

- I was born in north India (Punjab). I did my secondary education in Christian school in India where English was the main medium of instruction. I have been living in Finland from past seven years. I live in Hyvinkää and Lahti.
- I did my Computer Engineering in Finland. Presently I am studying International Business at LUAS and working part time with Accenture. My hobbies include travelling and collecting electronic gadgets.

Why did you want to study business?

- I started to study business because of my personal interests and need of multi-cultural business professionals in the market. I started my studies in autumn 2007. I would like to work as an Offshore Business Manager in future.

How do you find time to do both – the studying and the working?

- I work part time with Accenture as software specialist. My company supports my studies and I can do some of my work remotely. I try to utilise time management skills to make balance between studies and work.

You are now 27 years old. How does it feel to study when you are studying as an adult?

- It feels challenging because I need to divide my time properly in order to meet deadlines given by teachers at LUAS. It’s interesting to study with people from different ages and nationalities.

What is the most interesting part of your studies?

- It provides me an opportunity to improve my professional skills from experienced teachers, especially the teachers travelling from different countries to teach us in MBA Degree: teachers from US and Austria.

What do you think about your future?

- I feel quite confident that I would utilise the skills learnt during my studies in the work environment. The most interesting part is the Thesis which will be project abroad.
