Lahti University of Applied Sciences is the best thing in Finland
Tell us something about yourself.
– My name is Doan Thien Hoa Dang and I am 23 years old. I am from Ho Chi Minh City, one of the biggest cities in Vietnam. I am very interested in gastronomy, swimming and travelling.
What did you study in Lahti?
– I pursued Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Lahti. My degree program was Business Information Technology. It concentrated on two main fields. One was developing applications with current popular technologies .NET and Java. Another was about Information system management. Moreover, I also had the chance to study some basic business courses to have a general view about the whole business operations such as accounting, logistics, marketing etc. The knowledge I have from studying here is very practical and useful.
How did you find your way to Lahti University of Applied Sciences?
– I was told that Finland is one of the developed countries which has high quality and free education system. It supports everybody to have chances to study in good conditions. That's why I wanted to find a chance to study here. I took the entrance examination with the representative of Lahti University of Applied Sciences in Vietnam in February 2004. After receiving the admission from the school, I applied to have the residence permit at Finland Embassy in Hanoi. And at the end of August, I came to Lahti and enjoyed my life here for about four years.
To whom would you recommend the same studies?
– I recommend this program to those who want to study about application of information technology in business. Learning by doing is the spirit of the program.
What has been the most interesting part in your studies?
– The most interesting part I had was about database management and information system management. It helped me to realize the usefulness and critical role of data management and methods to manage data efficiently in many fields, not only in software industry. Moreover, every year we had visiting lecturers from different countries for some specialized courses. These courses focused on special issues of the industry which are very interesting and useful.
What are the best things in Lahti and in Finland?
– In my opinion, the best thing in Lahti was Lahti University of Applied Sciences. My teachers here were very kind, they were always enthusiastic about teaching and helped me to understand the lecture and find out the answer I needed. I really liked the beautiful Vesijärvi lake as well as summer and winter views in Finland.
Tell us about your present work.
– I am working in StreetCoder5 as a web developer. It is a company operating mainly in web game applications in Helsinki. I am developing different kinds of web games using mainly PHP and MySQL.
What do you think about your future?
– I am looking for a chance to conduct the Master Degree in Finland. Then I hope to have a chance to work in Finland for some years. I really enjoy living in Finland.
Would you like to say something else?
– Finland in general and especially Lahti University of Applied Sciences is really a good destination for studying. There are many interesting things you should come to experience and enjoy. Each of these – sights, weather, culture and people – will bring precious value and nice memories to you that you can’t even imagine.
