Writing contest

Business education has been offered in Lahti for 100 years. Celebrating this very important milestone Salpaus Further Education and Lahti University of Applied Sciences announce a writing contest opened.

1. Purpose

The purpose of this writing contest is to collect stories, memories and experiences of business education over the years on life in and development of Lahti and Päijät-Häme.

2. Organizers

Salpaus Further Education/Business sector together with Lahti University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Business Studies

3. Participation

The contest is open for the staff, students, alumni and other interest groups of Salpaus Further Education/Business sector and Lahti University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Business Studies, as well as the schools preceding them.

4. Series

There are four series in the contest:
a. Alumni
b. Staff
c. Current students
d. Other interest groups

5. Rules

All typewritten texts that are returned by the deadline will be accepted to the contest. The length is 4 000 to 10 000 symbols including the spaces. Texts may be written either in Finnish or English.

The text should be titled as follows:

Name of the writer
Contact information (address, phone number, email)
Series
Title.

6. Duration of the contest

20 May–30 September, 2010

7. Jury

The members of the jury are:

  • Heikki Hakala, Managing  Editor of the Etelä-Suomen Sanomat
  • Marja Leskinen, Lecturer at  Salpaus Further Education/Business
  • Maija Romo, Principal Lecturer at Lahti University of Applied Sciences
  • Raili Töntsi, Honorary member of the team
  • Ulla Weijo, Director of International Affairs at Lahti University of Applied Sciences

8. The criteria of the contest

Texts involving common interest and those based on one's own experience are appreciated by the jury. Humorous texts are also welcome.

Writings that may insult someone are rejected from the competition.

9. Rewards

The best writing in each series will be rewarded. Diplomas may also be given. Rewards are handed out at a cocktail party on November 9, 2010. Winners are notified personally.

10. Publicity

The best writings will be published as a booklet during the spring of 2011. Parts of the texts or full texts may be published on the Internet and/or the Intranet pages of Salpaus Further Education, Lahti University of Applied Sciences and/or the Etelä-Suomen Sanomat  newspaper.

11. Announcing the results

The results of the writing contest will be announced on November 9, 2010 at a cocktail party. After this the names of the winners will be published on the Internet pages of Salpaus Further Education and Lahti University of Applied Sciences.

12. Copyrights

Each writer agrees to that his/her text or parts of the text may be published on the Internet or Intranet pages of Salpaus Further Education and/or Lahti University of Applied Sciences as well as in the Etelä-Suomen Sanomat newspaper without any extra compensation.

The rewarded texts will be filed in the archive. Texts that are not rewarded will be stored for two years.
