Practical Placements

Practical placements are available both in public and private social- and health care institutions. Students’ personal needs and hopes will be considered. All students have also the possibility to study and practice at the Learning Centre Optiimi which is a part of our Faculty. In Optiimi students can study inter-professionally with our nursing-, social service and physiotherapy students and they will be tutored by clinical educators and a teacher. All students are provided with a personal student tutor as well as a teacher tutor.

Accommodation

The Faculty of Social and Health Care has two flats close to the faculty for 12 incoming students. There are 6 double rooms  rooms available. Flats include basic furniture: beds and desks in the bedroom, laundry machine and a dining table with chairs in the kitchen. The rent is paid once a month, strictly per calender month, via the bank or the Faculty's cashier. This means that if you are arriving or leaving in the middle of the month, you are still required to pay for the whole month. Electricity, heating, water, and furniture are included in the rent. Own linen is required. The flats will be rented by "first-come-first-served" principle.

Lahti University cooperates with the local student housing organisation "Oppilastalo". Please note that we can not guarantee you a place at their residence, but we will do our best! Oppilastalo operates an exchange student accommodation system in their student residences in Lahti. The residences are located within a walking distance or a short bus ride from the city centre.

Important to know

All infcoming nursing and physiotherapy students must be tested for MRSA before arriving at Lahti University of Applied Sciences. The certificate of negative result is needed for clinical studies. MRSA-test must be taken from both: nose and throat. Tuberculosis is recommended to be tested. Vaccinations against the most common diseases and hepatitis (A and/or B) are recommended.

The faculty of Social and Health Care rents bikes for the incoming students at the price of 30 €/semester.
