Studies
The Faculty of Music is part of Lahti University´s strong education in the field of culture. It is also part of the high-level Finnish music education, which has brougth to international market plenty of famous musicians: conductors, singers and soloists.
The Faculty of Music trains teachers of voice and musical instruments, teachers for music playschools, professionals in music theatre and musicians.
The University accepts students from anywhere in the world either to study the whole degree programmes or for shorter exchange visits.
The language of instruction is Finnish. However, in the Music Performance specialisation line the individual tuition may be in a foreign language e.g. English, Swedish or in some cases even Estonian or German, depending on the instrument.
Specialisation lines
MusicIAN (Musician AMK)
The studies aim particularly at developing the playing or singing skills. The graduates are qualified to work as orchestra musicians, soloists, répétiteurs or accompanists, depending on their instrument. The studies include:
- instrument studies: main instrument, secondary instrument
- orchestra, chamber music, ensemble, accompaniment
- basics of solfège, music theory and music history
- practical training
MusicAL Theatre (Musician AMK)
The studies aim at preparing the student for a possible career on stage. Each student specialises in singing, dancing and acting, and also combining these skills. The studies include:
- main instrument: voice, secondary instrument: piano
- ensemble
- acting
- movement/dance
- basics of solfège, music theory and music history
- practical theatre work
MUSIC EDUCATOR (Music Pedagogue AMK)
In addition to developing the playing or singing skills of the student, the studies concentrate on the pedagogics of an instrument or voice. After graduation the students are qualified to be teachers at music institutions. It is also possible to apply for jobs in other areas of music education and in orchestras. The studies include:
- instrument studies
- orchestra, chamber music, ensemble, accompaniment
- basics of solfège, music theory and music history
- pedagogic studies
- practical training
EARLY CHILDHOOD Music Education (Music Pedagogue AMK)
The studies concentrate on pedagogics applied to pre-school children (under the age of 7). The graduates are qualified to be appointed to posts at music institutions, especially to teach at music playschools. The studies include:
- main instrument: voice, secondary instruments: piano, guitar
- choir and choir conducting
- basics of solfège, music theory and music history
- pedagogic studies
- basics of psychology
- practical training
