Cost of Living
The Cost of living in Finland is somewhat higher than that in Europe in general. For basic expenses such as accommodation, food, and transportation an international student will need 450€ - 750€ per month:
- Rent 200€ - 300€
- Food 150 - 250€
- Transport approx. 50€
- Leisure, other personal costs 50€ - 150€
The housing deposit is 500€ which the student will get back (depending on the condition of the apartment) once he/she leaves. The expenses for course books are very low, since most of them can be borrowed from the libraries.
Depending on your personal spending habits (food, social life, travel plans within Finland or neighbouring countries, books and other materials, sports equipment, etc.) you should plan to supplement your budget by 100€ - 250€ monthly. There are always unanticipated expenses.
A VISA card, MasterCard or equivalent will be handy as there are cash machines everywhere. If you will, you can open a bank account with a local bank.
