Lahti University of Applied Sciences is a large, multidisciplinary institution of higher education. It is a centre of expertise with over 5,000 enrolled students and approximately 200 full-time teaching staff. Over 75 % of the teaching staff has a postgraduate degree (Master's or higher). Additionally Lahti University of Applied Sciences employs annually about 70 part-time teachers from other academic institutions, business and industry, and self-employment.

Lahti University of Applied Sciences is located in Southern Finland in the city of Lahti. Seven faculties operate in a number of locations in Lahti, with the main central campus area within a kilometre from the city centre, close to Lake Vesijärvi and the Salpausselkä outdoor recreation area.
Fields of Study
Lahti University of Applied Sciences currently operates in the following fields of study: business studies, design, fine arts, music, hospitality management, social and health care, sports, technology and engineering, and visual communication. There are twenty-one degree programmes with over forty specialisation lines, and one postgraduate degree programme. Students are selected by entrance examination: in 2001 there were on average twelve applicants for each opening.
Degrees
Degrees awarded at Lahti University of Applied Sciences have a more pronounced occupational emphasis than comparable university degrees. They are specifically designed to respond to the demands and development needs of business and industry. Studies are characterised by their practical orientation and freedom of choice. Within the major studies there are optional courses, and elective courses can be chosen from other fields of study or institutions. Initiative, individuality, and teamwork are encouraged. Practical training and projects as well as active co-operation with business and industry and other organisations are an integral part of the studies. 75% of the final theses at Lahti University of Applied Sciences are made-to-order for companies and other organisations.
