Entrance examination

September 2018 intake

All applicants who have demonstrated their eligibility will be invited to the entrance examination. The invitation letters will be sent by e-mail in early March 2018 at the latest.

No one can be considered for admission without an entrance examination.

IB and BIT entrance examinations abroad

In spring 2018 the Finnips network will arrange entrance examinations in twelve countries outside Finland. The exams will be held between 21 and 27 March 2018. Information on the exam cities and country-specific exam dates will be completed by the end of the year 2017

The entrance examination can be taken either in Finland or outside Finland in one of the countries where FINNIPS organises them. The exam country can be chosen in the application form. Please note that if you are planning to take the exam outside your own country of residence, you should check whether you need a visa to enter the exam country and whether visas are granted for exam purposes.

The entrance examination of Nursing of Lahti UAS is held only in Finland.
The studies include clinical training in health care organizations where studying only in English is challenging and that is why all applicants are also required to have basic Finnish skills (level A2). Language skills will be tested in the entrance examination.​

  • Exams will not be held at embassies or other places, like British Councils, on request of an applicant. Exams can not be taken online!
  • Previous entrance exams are not available for viewing and there are no samples to be sent.
  • All costs related to the entrance examination are to be covered by the applicant.

Special arrangements for entrance examination
An applicant may submit a separate application to request the right to special arrangements for taking an entrance examination held​ in Finland (concerning learning disabilities, illness or other disabilities​). 


The contents of the entrance examinations

Bachelor's degree, International Business


Lahti UAS does not send printed versions of the pre-reading material to the applicants.​

The entrance examination consists of the following sections (min./max. scores): an essay (3/10 points), multiple-choice questions (2/6 points), a section measuring mathematical/logical thinking (2/8 points) and an interview (3/16 points). The essay and the interview are combined in the entrance examination as an integrated section measuring English language proficiency. Applicants must receive at minimum points for each section. The section testing English language proficiency will be entered in the system with a pass/fail grade.

The examination assesses study and teamwork skills, verbal and written expression skills as well as mathematical/logical reasoning skills.  The Degree Programmes in International Business participate in admissions co-operation.

The entrance examination result is valid for the duration of the application period in question.

The required reading material or any other material, dictionaries, mobile phones or calculators are not allowed in the International Business entrance exam.

Pre-reading material tasks in Entrance exam in April 2018
Pre-reading material tasks in the entrance exam are based on the pre-reading material. The material will not be available at the exam. All applicants will need to read it carefully before arriving to the entrance exam. 

The Degree Programme in Business Information Technology forms a separate admission group with Laurea UAS. The entrance examination consists of the following three sections: a written assignment based on advance material (min./max. scores 2/10 points), an assignment measuring mathematical/logical reasoning (min./max. scores 6/20 points), and a group discussion or an interview measuring study skills and English language proficiency (min./max. scores 2/10 points).

The examination assesses aptitude for the field, study and teamwork skills, verbal and written expression skills as well as mathematical/logical reasoning skills. Applicants’ English language proficiency will be assessed as part of the entrance examination and they must pass all examination sections in order to be considered for admission.

If an applicant skips a section, the entrance examination will be failed. Applicants must score at least 10 points in the entrance examination (max. 40 points). The entrance examination result is valid for the duration of the application period in question.

Bachelor’s degree, Nursing

There is no pre-reading material.​​​​

Structure of the Entrance Examination:
Part A: Basic math test. This math test is screening out the applicants who do not achieve 10 points. If the result is less than 10 points, the other parts of the exam will not be evaluated. The points of the math test are not included in the total points of the entrance examination. Minimum points 10/maximum points 20.

Part B: Finnish language skills test (minimum requirement is level A2). This test is screening out the applicants who do not achieve 10 points. If the result is less than 10 points, the other parts of the exam will not be evaluated. The points of the Finnish language test are not included in the total points of the entrance examination. Minimum points 10/maximum points 20.

Part C: Written part. This part contains an essay. There is written material (text) included.  This material for written exam will be from the field of social and health care, the applicant is allowed to utilize the given material in her/his essay. Minimum points 20/ maximum points 40.

Part D: Group discussion. The entrance exams written part will be followed by a group discussion. In this part the supervisors evaluate group discussion skills and adequacy in English language. Minimum points 10/maximum 30.

The duration of the entrance examination´s written part will be 3 hours. For those whose native language is not Finnish, the written part contains also Finnish language test. It is compulsory and extra 30-minute time will be provided for the applicants.  Written examination is followed by the spoken group discussions. An English language skills test will be included to all applicants in the verbal and written parts of the examination.

If the result is less than minimum in any part, the other parts of the exam will not be evaluated. The applicant must score at least 30 points in the entrance examination for passing the examination.
