Contents

The contents of the Degree Programme in Business Information Technology are designed in cooperation with businesses and with an eye on future competence needs. The programme prepares students for a range of roles involving digital technologies.

In the first year, you will develop a good foundation in various aspects of digital business and learn to create your personal learning path. You will be able to choose from business, tourism, technology, design, and social and health care studies as well as a range of multidisciplinary modules in service design, circular economy and entrepreneurship. You will build a competence portfolio that demonstrates your ICT project and language skills.

As you proceed further in your studies, you will have access to various learning environments, including traditional classroom-based learning, online learning, business organisations and projects as well as events, the campus radio, the students' media agency and others. All these provide opportunities to learn by doing real-world tasks. Towards the end of the programme, you will gain practical experience by working in the organisation of your choice. You will be supported and assisted by a tutor teacher throughout your studies.

Job description

Upon graduation, you will be qualified for a range of roles requiring digital competencies. Depending on your personal learning path, you will be able to do the following: provide ICT support to end users, build new applications, draw up digital service process descriptions, deliver agile projects, build user-centred online stores, and design value-added digital solutions for businesses.

Funding

Tuition Fee
As of 1.8.2017 the tuition fee for new students from the non-EU/EEA countries is EUR  7900 per academic year for Bachelor’s Degree Programme.

Please note that the tuition fees do not apply to the following non-EU/EEA students:

1.1. ​Students who have started studies before August 2017
2.2. Students who study in degree programmes taught in Finnish
3.3. Students who are EU/EEA citizens or their family members (spouse/ child)
4.4. Students who are already residing in Finland or some other EU country on a permanent basis
(i.e are equivalent to EU citizens, have a continuous (A) or permanent (P/P-EU) residence permit type)

Scholarship
The scholarship is based on a 50% reduction in the fee for the first academic year. In addition, a 50% reduction applies to all the following years, if the student has completed a minimum of 55 ECTS during the previous academic year. This will be applied until the end of the study time (3,5 years).

Application process

Selection criteria

Applicants will be selected using two different methods:

SELECTION METHOD 1: ENTRANCE EXAMINATION, Entrance examination 40 points (65 % of applicants)

SELECTION METHOD 2B: SCHOOL PERFORMANCE AND ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (only available for those applying with a matriculation examination certificate), School performance 60 points, Entrance examination 40 points, Total 100 points (35 % of applicants)

Applicants who have completed the matriculation examination can be selected from both queues. Applicants with a vocational upper secondary qualification, a further vocational qualification or a specialist vocational qualification, or with a foreign qualification as well as those who have only completed the general upper secondary school syllabus may only be selected in the queue for selection method 1. Of the two admission queues, selection method 2B will be filled first, followed by selection method 1.

Entrance examination

All eligible applicants will be invited to the entrance examinations. Invitations to the examination are sent to the e-mail address given in the application. Applicants must sit the entrance examination at the unit providing the programme choice highest up in their application preferences participating in admissions cooperation, and the location of the examination may not be changed.

The programmes in the same admission group will accept an entrance examination taken at another university of applied sciences. Business Information Technology (BIT) conducted in Lahti UAS is involved in admissions co-operation with Laurea and Oulu UAS.

The national entrance examination for the Degree Programme in Business Information Technology will be organised during the spring joint application period on Friday, 21 April 2017 in Lahti, Finland. BIT of Lahti UAS co-operates with FINNIPS-network, which will arrange the entrance examinations abroad in 12 countries outside Finland: Brazil, China, Estonia, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Nepal, Russia, USA and Vietnam. The entrance examination can be taken either in Finland or outside Finland in one of the countries where FINNIPS organises them. An applicant is free to decide, in which of these countries he/she takes the exam.

The entrance examination consists of the following sections (min./max. scores): pre-reading material based writing task (2/10), a section measuring mathematical/logical thinking (6/20) and an interview (2/10). The examination includes a compulsory section measuring English language proficiency. Applicants must complete all sections to an acceptable standard.  The entrance examination result is valid for the duration of the application period in question.

Applicants must participate in all examination sections. If an applicant skips a section, the entrance examination will be failed. Applicants must score at least 10 points in the entrance examination (max. 40 points).
