Specialisation Line in Design Industry
The education of a fashion designer aims at providing students with the basic skills and competence in industrial fashion design. Central skills include the understanding of body forms, motion and plasticity. The degree programme familiarises students with clothing physiology, the qualities and uses of clothing materials, clothing communication and industrial production processes enabling them to design ethically, aesthetically, technically and economically high-quality products and collections for different target groups.
Gaining competence and success in the profession require outstanding visual expression and the mastering of CAD tools, skills in visual perception and comprehension, skills in seeking and applying information, co-operation skills and initiative to find one’s special field of operation, as well as creativity for solving problems in an aesthetically satisfying manner.
A variety of jobs are available for fashion designers, including fashion industry, commerce and the media. In industry, designers create individual designs and collections. They bring their expertise into the product development teams, which are part of the marketing strategy of the company.
Fashion designers can also choose to specialise in buying or fashion coordination in trade and commerce, costume design for theatre, film or TV, or the media.
