Exchange Studies
Student exchange at the Institute of Design is based on bilateral agreements between other institutions. If you are interested in coming to Lahti please contact your own school International Co-ordinator.

Study year
The academic year is divided into two semesters.
- Autumn semester is from first week in September to Christmas.
- Spring semester from first week in January to end of May.
For exchange student it is recommended that you arrive at the beginning of term to get orientated to your studies and because most of courses start immediatelly.
Deadlines to apply for exchange
- For the autumn term and the whole year: 1 May.
- For the spring term: 15 October.

Degree Programmes
The minimum entry requirement for a degree programme is a matriculation examination or international baccalaureate or other equivalent diploma or the completion of a vocational educational programme on a closely related field at the school/college level.
Both Finnish and foreign students wishing to apply for the Institute of Design degree programmes take part in an entrance exam.
The entrance exam brochure is published annually in January. The brochure includes information on pre-exam tasks and tests in each subject area and must be mailed back to school at the beginning of April.
Students who meet the standard required in the pre exam stage are subsequently invited to take part in the entrance exam held in June. For more detailed information please refer to our International Office.
